How To Get Your Student Job!

Employment Checklist

To apply for student worker jobs on campus including federal work study, please follow this process:
  • Review the student employment opportunities listed below on this website.  Open positions are only available for Âé¶¹´«Ã½»­Ó³ students.
  • Complete the online application in our Paycom system using the Apply Here link provided with each job summary.
  • If you are selected for interview by the hiring manager, the hiring manager will reach out to you individually typically via email.
  • If you are selected for the role by the hiring manager, you will complete the required paperwork with the hiring manager which includes two (2) documents: signing the job description and signing the
    • Your supervisor will share the official job description with you and ask you to sign it.
    • You and your supervisor have view only access to the 2026-2027 student employment form through the link above.  Please download, complete, and sign.
    • The hiring manager will return the signed job description and the 2026-2027 student employment form to Human Resources by emailing these two (2) documents to:  JaNae Joyner – janae.joyner@salem.edu and Elizabeth Bragg – elizabeth.bragg@salem.edu and Shannon Johnson – shannon.johnson@salem.edu.  This confirms that the hiring manager has approved your candidacy for hire for this student worker role.
  • Please ensure the hiring manager sends the signed paperwork over to JaNae Joyner and Elizabeth Bragg and Shannon Johnson in Human Resources via email
  • Set up a meeting with Human Resources by contacting Elizabeth Bragg (elizabeth.bragg@salem.edu)  and Shannon Johnson (shannon.johnson@salem.edu) and JaNae Joyner  (janae.joyner@salem.edu)
  • Complete onboarding through an in-person meeting with Elizabeth Bragg, Shannon Johnson, or JaNae Joyner in Human Resources.
    • IMPORTANT:  A student must receive approval from Human Resources (either Elizabeth Bragg and/or Shannon Johnson and/or JaNae Joyner) in order to begin their role even if you have been a student worker in a previous year.
    • If you are a student who have never worked with Salem before, you must bring appropriate and original (not copies) of  I-9 documents to Human Resources to complete onboarding.
      • Acceptable I-9 documents to bring can be found at .
  • Record your time through the Paycom system for the dates/times determined between you and your supervisor.  You will be shown how to do this in the Paycom App during your onboarding with Human Resources.
  • Receive payment

Student Writing Center Tutors

Job Summary:  The Âé¶¹´«Ã½»­Ó³ Writing Center is seeking student writing consultants who have successfully completed three semester hours of SALEM 275 or ENGL 211. Writing consultants provide one-on-one support to students on writing projects in both in-person and online settings while maintaining accurate records of their work hours. Consultants also participate in biweekly staff meetings, professional development sessions, and ongoing training to strengthen their tutoring skills and support the Writing Center’s mission of fostering effective writing across campus.

Student Design and Art Lab Assistant

Job Summary: The Design and Art Lab Assistant will support the daily operations of the Art & Design department’s labs and studios, as well as the interiors resource room and chair library. This position is ideal for students who are organized, responsible, and have an interest in maintaining a clean, safe, and productive creative environment. The assistant will help monitor lab usage, maintain equipment and materials, support lab safety protocols, and assist faculty and staff with general upkeep and organization.

Student Residence Life Campus Assistant

Job Summary: Student Residence Life Campus Assistants help create a safe, welcoming, and engaging living-learning environment for residential students. They support daily residence hall operations by assisting with office coverage, lockouts, and the Campus Care Hub; educating residents about housing procedures; managing guest check-ins and equipment checkouts; and maintaining inventory. Student staff also promote activities through social media and foster a strong sense of community and belonging among residential students.

Student Assistant - Student Center

Job Summary:  The Student Center Assistants support the daily operations of the Student Center by providing exceptional front-line customer service and creating a welcoming environment for students, faculty, staff, alumni, and visitors. Serving as the primary reception point for the Student Center, Office Assistants assist with guest services, facility operations, event support, equipment check-out, and building information. They also complete administrative projects and provide operational support to the Student Activities staff to ensure the smooth day-to-day functioning of the Student Center and its programs, events, and services.

Student - Biology Lab Assistant

Job Summary: The Biology Lab Assistant supports the Biology Department by preparing and maintaining teaching laboratories to ensure they are safe, organized, and ready for student learning. Working under the guidance of faculty, the assistant helps set up and clean up laboratory activities, prepares materials and equipment, maintains laboratory supplies and workspaces, assists with basic laboratory procedures, follows established safety protocols, and provides general support for the day-to-day operation of biology labs.

Student - Chemistry Lab Assistant

Job Summary: The Chemistry Lab Assistant supports the Chemistry Department by preparing and maintaining instructional laboratories to ensure they are safe, organized, and ready for student learning. Working under the guidance of faculty, the assistant helps prepare laboratory equipment, chemicals, glassware, and supplies; sets up and cleans up laboratory activities; maintains laboratory inventory and workspaces; assists with routine laboratory procedures; follows chemical hygiene and laboratory safety standards, including proper chemical handling and waste disposal; and provides general support for the day-to-day operation of chemistry labs.

Job Summary: The Financial Aid Office Assistant provides administrative and customer service support to the Financial Aid Office while assisting students, families, faculty, and staff. Student Institutional Advancement Assistant

Job Summary: The Institutional Advancement Student Assistant will be an integral liaison in the Institutional Advancement Office, helping steward alumnae and donors through various communications (written and spoken) and representing our student population at alumnae/donor events, which is an essential need. The position also will assist with general administrative tasks required in the Institutional Advancement Office.

Student Athletics Assistant

Job Summary: The Athletics Student Assistant supports the Athletics Department in a variety of operational, administrative, and game day activities that contribute to the success of Salem’s athletic programs. Responsibilities may include office support, event operations, statistics, scoreboard management, athletics communications, creative projects, concessions, and assisting coaches and athletic training staff. Student IT Help Desk Associate

Job Summary: The IT Student Help Desk Associate reports directly to the Assistant Director of Instructional Technology and Client Services. This position assists customers with common tools such as computers, projectors, online learning software, email, and calendar applications. The student associate is responsible for providing high quality customer service to users both on and off campus. This position collaborates with other Help Desk and Technology Services staff to resolve customer issues and ensure quality support.

Student Operations Worker

Job Summary: Under the general direction of the Executive Director of Operations, as an essential employee, the Operations Student Worker will be assigned to one of the four departments within Operations (Grounds, Custodial Mail Services, and Maintenance) as needed. While assigned to a department, the Operations Student Worker will report to the supervisor/lead of each respective department while performing assigned work. Once assigned, the Operations Student Operations Student Worker will commonly provide routine grounds maintenance, housekeeping, and maintenance functions and any other duties assigned. Operations Student Worker must be physically able to perform tasks appropriately.

Student QUEST Tutor

Job Summary: The Student QUEST Tutor provides individualized academic support to help Âé¶¹´«Ã½»­Ó³ students strengthen their understanding of course material and achieve academic success. Working one-on-one or with small groups, tutors assist students with coursework, test preparation, and study strategies while fostering a positive, supportive learning environment. Tutors adapt their instruction to meet students’ unique learning needs and encourage confidence, critical thinking, and independent academic growth.

Student Mercantile Store Clerk

Job Summary:  The Mercantile Store Clerk is responsible for assisting customers with items in the Mercantile, answering customer questions, assisting customers with purchase decisions, and completing sales transactions. They also help with checking in merchandise and restocking items in the store.

Student Technical Assistant

Job Summary: This Student Technical Assistant position provides support for events by setting up and breaking down equipment, assisting with audio/visual needs, and ensuring the smooth operation of events. This position may also assist with proper set-up and arrangement of equipment, table, chairs, furniture etc. on campus as a result of events. This technical assistant may also keeps track of inventory in the building and assist with other projects deemed appropriate by the Director of Special Events and Community Outreach.
